Clytie was a water nymph (daughter of Oceanus and Tethys) who was in love with Apollo.
Unfortunately for her, Apollo didn't return her feelings. So whenever Apollo drove the sun across the sky each day, she would stand there and look at him. She stood there for nine days, without actual food or water.
Finally, she stood in that position for so long her feet rooted to the ground, her hair became petals, and she turned into...
