Poseidon, God of the Sea
God of: The Sea

Symbols / Sacred Objects: Trident (see picture), dolphin (pretty much any marine animal),
Roman Name: Neptune
Also Known As: Earth-shaker
Parents: Hades is the eldest son of Cronus and Rhea, so his siblings are Poseidon, Hestia (older sister), Hera, Demeter, and Zeus.
Married to: Amphitrite
Strengths: Created lots of animals (most well-known is the horse), able to calm the sea, created lots of new land
Weaknesses: Greedy
Cool Facts:
#1: Poseidon created horses! Although Athena created chariots.
#2: Poseidon and Athena are old rivals: A looooong time ago, Athens was trying to find a patron god, and the two gods Poseidon and Athena both wanted to be the patron, so they decided that each god would give the city a gift, and the Athenians would choose whoever gave the better gift to be the protector of their city. Poseidon threw a trident into the ground, and up sprang a spring: unfortunately, the water was salty and undrinkable - therefore useless. No offence Poseidon, but seriously, a salty spring? What are they supposed to use that for (other than salt)? Athena made a wiser (expected, since she's the goddess of that) choice and gave the Athenians the olive tree. The olives could produce wood, food, and oil for the city, so they chose Athena over Poseidon. Naturally Poseidon was quite angry and insulted, so he sent a huge flood to a part of Athens (the Attic Plain). But I think it was smart of the Athenians to choose Athena. Athens turned out to be one of the most powerful, advanced places of the ancient world.
